Kevin Lee recently spoke with Joe Rogan on the latest edition of his MMA Show and during the podcast, Lee stated that he doesn’t think Ferguson will ever be the same after suffering the injury.
“I feel bad for the guy, I really do. I don’t think he’ll ever be the same coming off that one,” Lee told Joe Rogan during a recent appearance on the JRE MMA Show podcast (transcript courtesy of Bloody Elbow).
“That’s huge, especially at 34 (years old), to try and come back off that. And it kind of sucks for me, too, because I think I fought the best Tony Ferguson that you’re gonna see, period, really.”
“He’ll come back and he’ll still beat great guys. He’s still gonna do very good. But I don’t think he’ll be the same,” Lee said.
“I think the body can come back, it’s just I don’t know if his mind will let him be as free (because) that was one of Tony’s biggest assets,” he added. “He just does whatever the f—k he wants, and now, when he gets back in there, is he gonna be thinking about his knee? Even if that’s at the back of your mind, it’s limited to that type of style that he likes to fight.”

In Rogan’s opinion, it comes down to two men: former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and reigning UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.
“The argument is [Johnson] and Jon Jones,” Rogan said. “I feel like Jon Jones, as far as the level of talent [he’s fought], no question. Jon’s faced [Shogun] Rua, [Daniel Cormier] twice, [Alexander] Gustafsson, Vitor Belfort—I mean, Jesus Christ, you could just keep going and going and going—Glover Teixeira…”
In Lee’s opinion, however, former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre is another frontrunner in the debate—though he might be a slightly outdated model in the year 2018.
“I think Georges St-Pierre, still,” Lee said. “I think Georges is a little bit behind the times now…”
“I think Georges St-Pierre, for sure, is the greatest fighter that there’s been,” he clarified. “When you look at the resume, I don’t think anybody else compares, really. He’s got two losses, and avenged both those losses devastatingly. He came back after four years and won the title at a higher weight class. And he’s never really been in too much trouble in a fight. I look at the style, he’s one of the very first guys — he’s really what got me into the sport, because I saw his fight with BJ [Penn]. I could see it, I was like ‘this guy, he’s smart.’ He’s approaching it smart, like a true athlete, like a true artist. There are [other] people that do it too. Demetrious does it too, I just don’t think to the level that Georges has done.”
Rogan then responded, agreeing that St-Pierre probably belong in the debate alongside Jones and Johnson.
“Georges fought some serious competition,” he said. “Not that Demetrious didn’t.”

On the latest episode of the JRE MMA Show, Rogan once again delved into the topic, imaging what might have happened if another fighter had done what McGregor did.
“He just keeps f**king up with this kind of stuff and no one’s saying, ‘get rid of him!’” said Rogan (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “He’s worth so much money. It’s really fascinating. Imagine if Ray Borg and him switched sides. If Ray Borg showed up with all his boys and was screaming and yelling and threw a dolly at the window, it’s a done deal forever. Think about Paul Daley. Paul Daley must be at home going, ‘Motherf**ker! F**k Dana White!’”
“Until you get to that stratosphere that Conor McGregor—there’s so much money to be made, that’s the problem. The rules get bent. All Paul Daley did was throw a punch at Josh Koscheck after [the fight was over]. It didn’t even connect! That could have been sorted out.”
“There’s a level to the game where you’re so valuable—if Conor McGregor does a pay-per-view fight, especially if they do all that crazy nonsense with Mayweather—if they ever did that—they’re just printing money,” Rogan concluded. They’re printing money. It’s so hard for them to not take that money.”
