I never thought I’d see a #TangerineDream concert, even with loving their music since 1985. Never caught news of gigs, and when #EdgarFroese died, I thought that was it.
Tonight I saw a Tangerine Dream concert. Classic tracks like #Stratosfear , #WhiteEagle , #DolphinDance , Horizon (a few moments used in #StrangerThings ). And a new long #BerlinSchool of #ElectronicMusic piece with gentle moments and building phases of pounding throbbing sequencer driven trippiness and moody atonal atmospheres. This is the essence of Tangerine Dream. There is no sound quite like theirs and tonight it was vivified and energised anew. Deeply delightful, especially when it’s been part of your life’s soundtrack for over 30 years.
A night to remember; I look forward to more TD concerts and albums, and hopefully they can reach into a new and younger audience. I was so wound up on record store day I forgot to buy my records and left them at work! So belatedly here is what I got- a little bit a vintage vinyl mixed in with the new releases. Top row: Klaus Schulze live in 83, spongebob 7’, and Stockhausen. Middle row: tangerine dream: Zeit, Blackmoth Super Rainbow w. Mike watt & flea, and then (obviously) Eno & Shields. Bottom row: Twin Peaks music from the limited event series double picture disc 😁😁😁 #rsd18#eno#spongebob#tangerinedream#stockhausen#klausschulze#blackmothsuperrainbow#mbv#twinpeaks#davidlynch
Tangerine Dream - Zeit
(1972 / Varèse Vintage / Tangerine Vinyl 2000 copies / RSD 2018)
This one is hard to describe. It’s like you’re floating for hours watching a planet's birth and eventual death. It’s spacey as hell. Not for everyone. But for those who are into this kinda music this one stands out as a gem. I’m not sure what Tangerine Dream were on when they created this masterpiece but please send me some.
This RSD 2018 pressing sounds great to my ears. The chello’s are crisp and the synths are sharp. I feel like i’m hearing this for the first time again. Both LP’s seem to be different varients of orange. Sides A/B are a flat orange while C/D are a trans orange. ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️
