Kendrick Lamar • To Pimp A Butterfly• In my eyes, this album has done a lot for hip-hop in recent years. Such a strong & fitting jazz presence throughout the entire LP 🙌🏽 Terrace Martin is unbelievable in his multiple talents 🎷🎼🎹 From his distinguished saxophone stylings, to his string arrangements, or his work on the keys... What he has done, & continues to do for TDE is incredible. TPAB also introduced me to one of my favorite current artists, @rapsody with her verse on Complexion ❤️ If you can’t remember the last time you bumped this one, it’s been too long... #KendrickLamar#TDE#Top10#ToPimpAButterfly#TPAB#KingKendrick
Imagine this:: You were waiting for Erik to come home and you start to get worried. You were just about to call when the door opens suddenly, almost breaking and quickly slamming shut. Erik drops his stuff on the ground and is breathing heavily. He sits next to you head in his hands, angrily breathing and shaking,tears threatening to fall. “Come here baby lie down” you said as he threw his head on to your chest calming down in your arms. “I assume you don’t wanna talk about it?” He shook his head no as his breathing calmed down. He sat up still holding on to you before letting go and kissing your lips one sweet time. He got up grabbed two controllers to his Xbox and handed you one not saying anything. “What we playing baby?” you asked hoping for a response. “2K, and i’m finna whoop yo ass in it too” he said smiling a little and chuckling. “Nah B you wish, i’m finna cross you up like i do in real life too” you said jokingly receiving a laugh in return. “Oh word? we’ll see about that princess” He says as you lean your head on his shoulder. He lays back allowing you to rest your head comfortably on his chest, and he starts the game. ‘I’m not sure what he was so worked up about, but i’m glad he went to me for comfort, he’s never been the one to open up about things like that’ you thought as you smiled when he kissed your forehead. 😭❤️💝🍫

A few people have been asking for my thoughts on KOD. So here y’all go;
J. Cole has a message of unity and a constitution of excellence that he is attempting to establish within the community. It is clear that he has grown into more than just a rapper. It seems like the longer his dreads get the more wisdom he shines with. Cole has been doing a lot more than just music, and you can tell that his words come from his growth not only as an artist, but as a human in the cultural climate we live in today. This album outlines the important role he feels he needs to take in the community.
To me he is this generations KRS-One. An educator and activist, who has a great way with words. Another important positive is that J. Cole’s bars are probably the best they have ever been. His wordplay, metaphors, and ability to ride the beat is ridiculous. He’s one of the greatest lyricists of his generation. Plus…the interludes are absolute fire!
This album is boring (with the exception of a few outliers). Unfortunately for J. Cole, our eardrums have become accustomed to (and really blessed with) great production, and this is something we didn’t see on this album. No matter how good and righteous the message is, the music needs to be a worthy vessel for that message. This could also be Uncle Cole focusing on the lyricism to ensure his listeners grasp the message, but who’s to say. The best J. Cole is the one who takes his great rhymes and couples them with great drums, melodies, and maybe even a sample or two. Exhibit A - 2014 Forest Hills Drive
🚀 J. Cole - KOD // #Poser album review. Enjoy 🙂.
🐻 What J. Cole did with “KOD” is what Kendrick Lamar did with “DAMN.”.
“OMG @musicposer can you not ride Kendrick Lamar’s 🍆🍆 for at least 1 minute! This is a J. Cole review not Kendrick SMH!”. Yo hold up im comparing “DAMN.” to KOD because both rappers executed both of their latest albums (KOD AND DAMN.) in very similar fashion and style. How?
🚀 Cole took today’s HipHop sound trends, trap beats, and ate them the hell up, rapping so naturally over them you would think he was one of those tattooed, lean drinking, “money phone to ear” rappers lol. But J. Cole ain’t your average Lil [Insert bathroom item here].
🐻 Cole is known for being a conscious rapper, lyrics that make you meditate on what you’re really doing out here in your life. And he delivers that here yet again, but much more sharper and direct. Like Every now and then you gotta pause these tracks just to take in what Cole just said... like on “Brackets” when he talked about the GOVERNMENT using his tax money on weapons that end up in his hood... or on hiring teachers that dont look like him (SHEESH😥).
🚀 Being obsessed and controlled by money, the poison of Social Media, cutting off friends who are just tryna eat off of you, Cole’s hometown homies (and fans😶) not taking action on the knowledge/advice he delivers to them in his music, abusive (mentally and physically) relationships; Lyrics around these topics and more are found throughout this album, and like I mentioned earlier, he’s rapping over catchy, Current “Soundcloud Era” trap beats, so KOD’s captivating songs infused with A1 messages are very easy to listen to since they are both catchy and meaningful.
🚀 Conclusion: Cole announced KOD last Tuesday, 4 days before it dropped. The following Friday, it was released to the world. Within 24 hours, it shook the world. If thats not a sign that this album (and Jermaine) is a force to be reckoned with, then I don’t know what is.
