This weekend marks the fourth CrossFit Regional for Michele Fumagalli (@fitplatenutrition), who hasn’t been on the Regional floor since 2015.
"I was five months postpartum last Open, and I always wanted to make it back," the 30-year-old says. "This year I did really well in the Open, and my coach and I were gung-ho about going to Regionals.”
To prepare for the three-day competition, Fumagalli has been working a lot on cardio—a training habit that she attributes to motherhood and the need for short, high-intensity workouts so she can get back to her 21-month old.
"Quality over quantity because I have 60-70 minutes to work out—thankfully because of my husband and my supportive family—so it’s all about getting in quality work in that time," she says.
Fumagalli comes into Day 3 of the competition in fourth and she’ll be fighting to hold onto her qualifying position.
"I didn’t want to come [to Regionals] just to come. I wanted to compete,” she says. “I have a soccer background, and when I played soccer I went into every game thinking I was going to win. I’m trying to take that mindset into Regionals.”
And if she does find herself on the podium, Fumagalli says it would be a dream come true.
"It’s about my family and my daughter. The last mile of Triple 3, my husband actually held her up in the crowd and that kept me going."

Happy Sunday friends! Just wanted to share one of our favorite recipes for chicken. Quick, easy and the whole family enjoys!
Hummus Crusted Chicken •4 boneless chicken breasts
•one cup hummus (no I don’t like regular hummus but I love this recipe)
•paprika and garlic powder to taste
Preheat oven to 450degrees
Spray glass dish with olive oil
Spread hummus on both sides of chicken and place in dish
Sprinkle paprika, garlic powder and squeeze lemon juice over chicken
Bake for 25-30 min or until chicken is cooked through. Serve immediately with your favorite veggies!

I am the most fit I've been in my life possibly. And I did it without leaving my house. I did it in 30-60 min a day, 6 days a week. Yes, it was hard. But it was only 60 min of hard. It was not even cardio every day (thank goodness - not always my favorite - especially at 6am!!). The meal plan was simple, straightforward, flexible and kept my energy up all day. I was not hungry. I was able to indulge periodically and still stay on plan. There are built in days for cookies and crackers!
My kids counted down the days with me. At Day 24 of 80, they were so excited for me and at Day 80, my 5 year old daughter threw a tea party for me in celebration. They totally got into it and were a huge support for me as well as the awesome challenge group doing it day by day right along with me. I was never doing this alone - a huge motivator to keep on going. Yes, I had to push myself and choose heavier weights to keep making progress but it was so worth it!

The moody skies may have kept us from reaching the summit today but the magic of the forest after a rain made exploring some of the feeder trails an adventure all its own. So thankful this guy is almost always ready to gear up & just wing it with me. I like to think I'm teaching him a few things but really, I think I'm learning far more from him. #childhoodmagic
INSPIRED! Day 6 of 30... •
April 16, 2017 will forever be imprinted in my life journey. I can remember so vividly being held down on the ground while this random stranger was beating my face in and trying to rape me. What is even more vivid was my distinct and overwhelming will to live. There was a fire 🔥 for sure!! It was so strong and vibrant that I instinctually kept fighting back and eventually he stopped, gave up and ran away. My light, my spirit, my love Is unsinkable. •
One thing I know for certain is that we each have a spirit inside of us. An undeniable will to live and given the appropriate attention and love, that spirit can be filled in so many ways. •
I left the @strongasamothersummit last Saturday feeling INSPIRED more than ever to help others that have been through struggles or are being met with resistance and friction in their life for various reasons. I was inspired by every mama that walked into my room and everyone I was able to connect with. •
Many people asked why I did not share my story and some people were waiting to hear my story… My feeling is that we all have our stories that have led us to where we are. My stories of struggle may not be the same as your stories but they are all struggles that we work through to try and make our lives better and be the best version of ourselves. •
I gracefully and mindfully shifted the hate that was brought towards me that night into love and gratitude. Love for life and gratitude that I am here to help others. I am so inspired to keep sharing, keep loving and keep opening my heart to lift others up. •

Finally made it to my parents!
It took half the day for me to get us all packed and ready to go. 🤪
Between feeding Luke breakfast and lunch, getting him down for his nap, packing for the whole family, being exhausted from not sleeping longer than 3 consecutive hours since delivery, breastfeeding Linkyn, dealing with Luke’s slight jealousy over mama carrying around another baby, feeding and clothing myself, getting both kids in clean diapers and clothes, and doing all of this while trying to “take it easy” because I just delivered a child...it’s a miracle we ever left the house!
I knew it would take some adjusting to life with two babies under the age of 1, but I definitely underestimated it.
I have serious respect for single mamas!
It feels like I just can’t seem to move fast enough. I know I desperately need a good nap, but there’s so much to do and their nap time is my only chance to get things done.
I know once I’m fully healed and recovered from delivery it will be somewhat easier.
I am so thankful to have a hands on husband and to have such an incredible family support system around me.
I know this journey will be challenging, a test of will and faith, and downright hard at times... but it’s a challenge I was made for and one that I will never back down from.
We’ll figure this all out together, that I’m sure of. ✨💕

I knew my day would be packed and if I didn't just get it in this morning, it wouldn't happen!
Although, I did pack my arsenal of fitness programs with me on the iPad, I'm glad it's done - because #HurricaneHaider will be hitting the pool when we get there! 💦
Hey guys, I’ve changed, a lot! I’m noticing more and more now that my relationships with people, myself and even food are quite different than before.
Take the issues I used to have with food for example: indulgence before were things like binge eating, a whole bottle of wine or a six-pack, overconsumption of carbs and junk food. My mindset used to be, “Hey it’s a cheat day!” Here’s some real wisdom I’ve come across now—create a life you don’t have to cheat on!
Now my mindset is in moderation and more focused on how something will make me feel rather than how it will fill me up. I embrace an abundant variety of food and drinks but now it’s maybe a beer or a glass of wine here and there. Dessert sometimes, and then I let myself go out and shop at a favorite store or market and indulge in the most flavorful healthy options. This allows for those times when maybe something not so good for me may appear and I just go with it instead of obsessing about it.
I learned these things and this way of balance through the programs and systems available through my health company and the community I found there. I haven’t given up ANYTHING on this journey!
