Keep Moving Forward ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ˜ƒ
How moving the carrot makes for a better workout ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜€ Something that has been working well in a lot of our training to keep pushing the intensity and most importantly is: moving the carrot. 
A lot of people in their workouts think of looking at their workout by exercises and reps. 
Lets use an easy couplet example:
500m + 20x KBS
So rather than finish the row, catch you air or get water then start your swings you MTC (Move the carrot) and instead towards the end of the row you get mentally prepared and stoked to get part of the swings done immediately. 
In any of your workouts as your ending the reps of 1 exercise you already start envisioning and getting excited about starting the next exercises. 
This wont cut 5 mins off your Fran time but it will start to mentally strengthen and teach you how to keep moving forward.

ProTip!! How to save energy in the push up! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿค“
Todays Flex Friday had a glorious amount of push ups so a couple rounds in I dropped a protip ive used for years to save energy. 
This may seem stupid or like a joke but if you try it you would see it would save you some strength. 
A lot of people spend too much time at the top or getting into the push up all that time holding and bracing acts like a static hold, builda up the calcium and slows the contraction and more. 
The kids in class total thought I was f**king around until they tried it, then it turned awesome and hilarious. 
Abel does an awesome job demonstrating and it inspired Charlotte to figure out how to get up without using her arms but I couldnt catch it on tape.

Been talking to a lot of people based on a series of PRs and PBs last week in some of the big movements and for quite a few folks, MORE strength is the new goal. 
Others are still working on different goals be it, rehab/moving pain free, body comp, performance etc. 
Thats the cool thing about Matador, that we focus on YOUR goal, not some unattainable, untestable fitness, but actual real results. 
So a few of us have decided to make a plan and pact to no longer use the same warm up weights. Ill go into this later but the strongest I ever got was working out with one of the strongest and most sold dudes I know, Ian. And Ian had a very interesting strength background Ill dive into on another post. Needless to say, working deadlifts sets will now be in the 300s no matter what.

Others are still working on different goals be it, rehab/moving pain free, body comp, performance etc. Thats the cool thing about Matador, that we focus on YOUR goal, not some unattainable, untestable fitness, but actual real results. So a few of us have decided to make a plan and pact to no longer use the same warm up weights. Ill go into this later but the strongest I ever got was working out with one of the strongest and most sold dudes I know, Ian. And Ian had a very interesting strength background Ill dive into on another post. Needless to say, working deadlifts sets will now be in the 300s no matter what. Shoulders Popping!! ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ And Fixing ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿค“
Shoulder pain is a super common issue and depending on location can hace multi causes. 
BUT like I tell clients, its actually really hard to get injured during your 1 hour training session, its usually caused by the other 23 hours in the day that started to create the eventual problem ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค—
So, Alex has some popping and pain in the shoulder. Was it a bicep or bicep tendon issue, or impingement, or tight pec minor etc etc?? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”
A lot of it actually has to do with posture and Ive been harping on him for a while. 
Alex's job pretty much has him sitting hunched almost all day long. Add in a cell phone, a couch, a kid, a history of vad posture, a history of bro workouts and so much more. 
I did a short assessment on him and the front shoulder and bicep were tight. So on goes the band and turn on the pain face. 
If you notice right from the beginning is he rolls his shoulder out of place, so this cues me to cue him to work on retraction and placement. 
If notice right when I pull the band off its like instant relief and if your volume is up youll hear him finish the video by saying, "no more popping," mostly becsuse the shoulder is in place ๐Ÿ˜„

Couple kids did amazing during the StrongManLite class this morning but I was distracted by an adorable drifter that made camp in the drive way ๐Ÿ˜† 
I offered her food and a bench and a chair and she wanted to just camp it and wanted my wifi password ๐Ÿคฃ These hobos these days dont have much but you can bet shes online watching her shows ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Then afterwards we had bible study. Not kidding at all, David, I and Jaynie had a cool talk about Lilith (Adams 1st wife) translations, editing the bible, the meaning of holy trinity and gods spark, so, yeah, #church ๐Ÿค“

Awesome Class Yesterday and Ians 1st time being in a big group! 
We had a great training session and group of people lined up for our 5pm slot yesterday and I wanted to see how well Ian did with a big group and also how the group would do as well. 
It was a blast! Ian is definitely a go getter and is able to muster and put forth a TON of energy. So luckily this workout had no 1st or 2nd places it was station based and he totally controlled his performance in the exercises. 
The group did awesome encouraging and supporting Ian but Ian kills it in the motivation and smiles dept. At one point he reminded everyone with his classic, "Never Give Up!" And it definitely eased the mood and motivated the group. 
It was Devyns first official class but we eased into it and stayed in control the whole time. She did phenomenal. 
Shelly finished everythint with grace. And for the usual group of hooligans, shelley, dan, Abel, Dan it was badass business as usual. 
Great job everyone and thanks for making my nights amazing! ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„

When you face powerful emotions like fear and failure, do they stop you in your tracks or propel you into forward action?

Today I want to challenge you to set a โ€œFear PRโ€ (PR=Personal Record). Identify the thing in life that scares you most right now. The thing that keeps you from taking decisive action and moving forward. Ask yourself a few questions:

1. What EXACTLY am I afraid of?

2. What is the absolute worst-case scenario around this fear?

3. Is whatโ€™s holding me back in reality or just in my head?

Often diving into what it is youโ€™re actually afraid of will show you that the fear comes from the stories youโ€™re telling yourself in your own head rather than reality.

Recently I set a personal Fear PR. My fear has always been being 100% vulnerable and putting myself and all my flaws out there for the world to see. Recently at a fitness business conference that we attended we had to present on our business. I was nervous about sharing our proprietary information and how we stacked up compared to our other peers in attendance. The fear of judgement is huge for me. Anyways, not only did I get through the presentation but the feedback and brainstorming that followed was amazing! It was so liberating letting go of the emotional stress of the fear and just trusting that we are in the right room. I would've regretted not doing this, and also not gained the new knowledge to progress my business and tribe.

Now go set your Fear PR! Tackle that fear head on. Tell yourself that this is just a stepping stone to your success. And if you โ€œfail,โ€ you get to have an incredible learning experience, since failure is just a slight derailment on your path meant to correct your actions to lead you to where you are supposed to be.

Well, not really, because he got his first pull up Monday but, like, totally on accident and completely unprepared ๐Ÿ˜†
We finished our session Monday a little early and were taking about the finer points of Programming and Movements and Ian his strength improvements and pull ups got brought up so I said, "grab the bar and do it." And boom. Pull up ๐Ÿ˜€ 
So today he wanted to show leslie and he nailed another one. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ This time i told him "get your chin to the bar" so thats exactly what you see in the picture because he takes everything I say extremely literal ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ but dang it he nailed it!

Couple Warm Ups (#fails) at 185 made 170 super easy. This training session taught me a lot about my right (#fail) shoulder. Ive had problems with it for about 5 years mostly in form or function. 
Its probably a torn rotator cuff that has never healed but only shows issues during KTEs or T2Bs. Thats about my only limits with it. 
Today though it shined a different light on how I can prep, turn it on and engage it before and during a movement. I literally figured out a way to "plug it in" that just felt right and made sense... sometimes its literally the small shit...
On another note about 6 years ago this band literally saved my life. And though this isnt the song, a song of theirs is actually the music I have tattooed on my arm. 
This song though was definitely my anthem today though.

Overall Alex has made significant and amazing improvements since starting hardly a year ago. I cant brag enough or support him enough on his fitness path. The dude is practically the perfect client. He tracks his workouts, inquires about all kinds of aspects related to fitness, has a great motivating and inspiring personality and outlook, and does his own research and experimenting.

This dude has been with me less than 6 months and had a previous PR of 225lbs ๐Ÿคค so clearly we have made some awesome progress not just in Lifting Heavy Shit Dept. but this is a HUGE accomplishment due to the fact that about a year ago Bill was suffering from terrible knee and ankle problems and couldnt lunge, squat or do much lower body work at all.

I needed my music motivation for the PR attempt ๐Ÿ˜„
I havent done heavy back squats since I was deep into the Stronger Things Programming by @orionstrength and that was a lot of tempo and volume but today I just went for as heavy as possible and was able to build up to 365lbs ๐Ÿค—
1 thing that has helped my strength recently, and this has been weird, has been having not a lot of time for workouts and only using 25s or 45s (plates) for jumps up. 
That is an old style of progression I heard about years ago but it definitely causes you to focus the f**k in on what youre doing. 
But Coach 365 isnt even that heavy!! Youre totally right kiddo, for me right meow it is. My basic strength goals are to Deadlift 400 and Back Squat 315 any day I want. Thats really my main goal. And after like literally recovering from tonsillitis yesterday for 2 weeks Im totally muthatruckin pumped for 365.

Strength Doesnt Have To Be Touch And Go ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค—
A lot of new members have to get used to this when they train with us but I also see this mistake in a lot of peoples training sessions out there. 
Strength reps do not have to be touch and go. 
Sure its programmed that and absolutely there are benefits to repping like that but the CNS is in control and with the right kind of weights and kind of stimulatiom taking a moment or few moments to regrip, reengage, reconnect, breathe etc is totally the beneficial thing to do. 
Take your time.
Do it right. 
Each rep is worth its own time and money. 
The cleaner the rep, the better the training. 
Of course, metcons and such are different experiences. 
But I see a lot of people treat their Strength Work like its a metcon. Especially with Oly Lifts. 
When most trainees train their oly lifts they act like they are in the middle of Grace or Isabel. Then you go watch an actual oly lifter and they dont train like that. 
Slow down, do it right, enjoy the experience. ๐Ÿค“

Since coming back from vacay she has been on serious kick to get swole. I commend her a lot because she is super motivated to sleep better, add weight (which is like unheard of for females) and get the booty. Its awesome ๐Ÿ˜„ Of course she has other goals but these are some highlights. 
This Flex Friday Alex learned the power of 2 fingers while doing concentration curls. We took the biceps to tax in con curls to make rowing exceedingly more difficult and utilize the back muscles more. Normally you work the chain from larger muscles to smaller muscles but we flipped script on that to cause some serious activation, awareness and growth. By the look on Alex's face, it worked ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Last Saturday we had the first class of the Anti-Bullying course! We worked the Step 1 (โ€œWalk Awayโ€) and Step 2 (โ€œStand Up for yourselfโ€). โ€ข This Saturday we will have the last class and will review Steps 1 and 2, and work Step 3 (โ€œProtect Yourselfโ€) and Step 4 (โ€œStay Togetherโ€). Donโ€™t miss out! โ€ข Thank you for all the families that were able to make it! We feel blessed to help and empower our community!
