We have so much sun and warm temps here in Scandinavia, right now☀️, that I start to be worried about the actual Summer period - Will it fade out as so many times before?🧐
Better make the most of the situation, and so I did with today’s little number🥃
The official “National Rum Day” is August the 16th - But who is counting anyways?😇
So today I really urged for a rum sip that was complex, rounded and enforced the Summer vibes we have right now🏖
In this creation I used a Dark spiced rum
Dark, Black or Golden rum starts off as the same clear spirit that makes light rum. Instead of being filtered and bottled right after being distilled, dark rums are aged first, by aging it in charred oak or wooden barrels, thereby giving it darker color and a bolder flavor. The longer the rum is aged, the darker it is🖤
It can also be done, however, by adding molasses, burnt sugar or caramel for color and flavor
Being spiced includes ingredients outside of the sugar used to create the alcohol to change to the taste🍁
I really dig dark rums and dark spiced rums in particular when creating tiki-like sip, or just want that extra level of complexity🍹
Today I was inspired by @tippleandnosh and their “Beach Feels” (Rum, allspice dram, velvet falernum, Jamaican bitters)👌🏽
6 CL Dark spiced rum (@worldsendrum 🇧🇪)
1.5 CL Herb liqueur (@edmundslikoere )
1.5 CL Velvet Falernum (John D. Taylor’s)
4 Dashes Creole Bitters (@thebittertruthcompany )
Stir with plenty ice❄️
Strain into chilled glass with one big cube ❄️(@mixmeister )
Garnish with flower of the day💐
This makes for a delicious and rich summer sip - best to enjoyed right now☀️
Saturday night cocktails at Tonic bar, Linden, Johannesburg.
Drink Name: Tiki Monk
Ingredients: Grilled pineapple, Lemon grass, Ginger and white rum.
Read like a health smoothie, tasted sunny and smooth. Easy drinking stuff.
Craft beer is nearly a lost cause out here. I’m slowly finding some good stuff but reality is setting in. Bright side: Tiki drinks!! Rum cocktails and ocean views for the win! I threw together a poor version of a Planter’s Punch today and took in some rays. It’s gonna be a spirited few years, I do believe.

So my friend @eckypeck has been going through an ordeal lately, and recently she went through a dramatic and beautiful transformation on stage at #madhaus . I have been so moved by her bravery, perseverance, and determination brought to life in her character Ialette I really had to pay tribute somehow, so I've turned her into one of the strongest and funkiest rum drinks I've ever made. Here's to you, Erica.
The perfect Friday night drink to get the party started. •
All you need is;
50ml Pirates Grog Five Year,
5ml Pedro Ximenez Sherry,
15-25ml Vanilla Sugar Syrup,
3 Dashes of Chocolate Bitters,
3 Dashes of Orange Bitters,
Add ice cubes to a tumbler. Pour in the rum, Pedro Ximenez Sherry, simple syrup and bitters. Squeeze orange peel over the glass to release some oil, add the peel to the drink and serve! •
Thank us later!! 💀
This is such a wonderful cocktail. We are taken aback by how incredible this flavor profile is. Cheers!

"The four of them always sat at the same table. The one at the
back was out of arm’s reach, yet still visible to the hubbub and
clientele that painted the bar around them. They would sit
legs outstretched, unabashedly so, surveying the scene that
unfurled before them. Heads would turn, and whispers follow".
