Family has been a major part of my recovery after getting wounded in war. I will never forget how difficult it was on my family taking care of me.
My wife and CM Executive Dirtctor Melissa Hansen had to quit her job as a highly paid senior scientist (chemical engineer) so she could help me during those years of doctor appointments traveling many miles to different hospitals for appointments and taking care of our three beautiful adopted children.
When people talk about “Hidden Heroes” I instantly think of my wife and her sacrifice to ensure the family made it through those years as I got my health back.
Yesterday as I rode behind my wife and son mountain biking on an incredible day out in Nature I felt so happy and alive.
This is why we do what we do at CM, we have been through it and understand how difficult it is on the family as well as the Veteran.

There are several different types of meetings that CM gets involved in to help the community that some of you might not be aware of.
Today I took part in another CIT training for Law Enforcement which is one of those type of meetings.
Starting in 2014 with the Box Elder county, Salt Lake county, and Davis county I have been invited to share my Iraq war experience and how it effected my mental health.
This helps Law Enforcement understand more about why we get triggered by certain things here at home and how to handle these cases when they arise.
It is an honor to be involved and work with our Law Enforcement that have a very difficult job. During my recovery I went down a terrible road and had a few instances with the law, if I had not been down that road I’m not sure it would be affective for me to take part in this training.
Unfortunately the best teachers happen to be from those that have been there, done that and recovered to help others not to make the same mistakes.
I would like to thank Travis from Davis county for inviting me to take part in the CIT training today.

Special thank you to all our Law Enforcement Officers 🇺🇸❤️
What is CIT? Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) are teams of specially trained law enforcement officers. These officers are trained in tactics to effectively deal with a person experiencing a mental health crisis, as well as how to interact on an everyday basis with individuals who have mental illness. - NAMI Utah
I have mental and physical health challenges, I refuse to say “I have a disorder”, “I’m disabled” or “I have an illness”. After getting wounded in Iraq I have been through many minor to major surgeries on my lower back, neck, and shoulder. I’ve been through countless weeks/months/years of physical rehabilitation along with cognitive testing and training.
During this time I gave-up on myself and was very discouraged. I
Felt like there was zero future for me. I spent my days eating unhealthy foods which lead me to having to take medication for cholesterol issues and was fifty pounds overweight.
I had to make a choice, I could continue to eat unhealthy foods, never do physical activities and use my injuries as an excuse for everything. I would tell my wife (going on 24 years of marriage this year) that ‘those vets’ aren’t as wounded as me and that’s why they can do those activities....what an easy way to stay unhealthy, unhappy and let depression control me.
Fortunately for me and my family I chose not to let my mental and physical challenges hold me down. As my children got older I didn’t want them to remember their dad as a poor wounded “disabled” vet who couldn’t do anything but sit at home.
I live with chronic pain, physical and mental health issues but I chose to not let it hold me down. I no longer need medication for cholesterol issues because my eating habits and physical condition changed plus I lost the extra fifty pounds.
I do activities to be my best, I have developed an internal confidence that allows me to pursue beautiful adventures with my family. Now at the age of 46, I will Continue Mission in Life and Healing. - Sgt Josh Hansen U.S. Army (Retired)

What an incredible honor to have Kimberly Myers, MSW - Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the @utdepartmentofhealth connect @harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to CM for a story on our active role in suicide prevention.
“The Harvard T.H. Chan School is considered a preeminent school of public health” - Wikipedia
I can’t express how it makes me feel to have CM recommended for a story like this. When we first started CM I said “if we can save just one life it will all be worth it” in the last three years we have received many letters from Veterans and civilians stating how CM has changed their life and they will Continue Mission in Life and Healing.
We want to thank the following individuals from Harvard for taking the time to learn about our mission and fly out to do an interview with us:
Morissa Sobelson, MPH - Candidate for Doctor of Public Health
Noah Leavitt - Assistant Director of Communications and Content Strategy Office for External Relations
Craig R. LaPlante - Senior Manager, Creative Digital Media
Special thank you to Summer Thatcher for coming out and supporting plus filming the filming.
None of this would be possible without our support from the community, donors, and sponsors.
