I’ve never had fried clams -this statement is absurd to locals- so I went down to Gilbert’s Chowder House and ordered some. The bar was empty except for this gentlemen having one too many after shift drinks. He’s been the kitchen manager there for the past 14 years. He liked my green sweater “green is the color of army and I served in the army” he said. He asked me a hundred times if I liked the clams, I said they were great (they really were great). He told me their mussels were great too. I told him I was too full for more. So he ordered some for all of us to share -servers included. The mussels were an off menu preparation, sautéed with local blueberry beer. To my surprise, the blueberry came through very clean and clear. After devouring the mussels we drank down the cup of mussel broth. Guess I just had staff meal with the #gilbertschowderhouse crew. Thanks guys 🙏

The only type of clammy you’d ever want to be! Count neck clams are one of our biggest sellers, and steamers are a seasonal favorite. Aside from these two choices, our price list also includes frying clams, chopped clams, and clam strips.
