Golden Axe is a Sega Megadrive 1989, home porting of the famous Sega arcade that bears the same name.
As for many System 16 conversions, Golden Axe is a pretty good porting.
The MD version features all of the 3 selectable characters, and everything was in the arcade (enemies, bosses, strange animals, dwarfs, magic and so on). To be more precise, it features 2 extra exclusive short levels (not so great tp be honest, just a long corridor with the same enemies you face in the game, but with different colors, that brings you to the final duel with Death Bringer, an alternative version of Death=Adder, or better, a green and purple Death=Adder).
Technically the game is good. Watching it today, the graphics are heavily downgraded confronted with the original. The are less colors on screen, many particulars in the background are missing, everything is less definite and clear, but the result is overall good. The soundtrack is ok, and it mantains the atmosphere of the original. The game is a little bit short, unless the 2 extra levels, but it's very fun. It is possible to play it in single player and in co-op.
Cutting short, back in the 1989, that was an hell of conversion. Many portings were made (Master System, Pc engine cd rom, Amiga, C64 and so on) but imho, the MD one is by far the best. A must have. #sega#megadrive#segamegadrive#16bit#goldenaxe#oldschoolgaming#retrogame#retrogames#retrogaming#retrogamers#gamestagram#consoleaddict#videogame#videogames#genesis#segagenesis#gamer#retrogamescollector
