2 Quick Fixes: Hamstring Strain ⏱⚒

After any muscle strain/tear, the two most important factors to re-establish are normal muscle ↔️ length and eccentric 💪 strength. Whether it is a recent injury or a chronic niggle, working on both of these is essential to your rehab.

Here are 2 quick fixes to managing a hamstring strain.
.
1) Proper hamstring stretch: A lot of people get the basic hamstring stretch wrong. By rounding your back and locking your leg straight, you will tend to put most of the ↔️ tension on the sciatic nerve. This leads to that really unpleasant ⚡ tight feeling at the back of your knee. Here is a better way to properly stretch the hamstring muscle.😁

HOW TO: Place your foot up on a chair/bench > keep your back straight and bow forward at the hips (hip hinge) > have the knee slightly bent, not locked straight > relax the ankle and let it do whatever it wants > hold the stretch for ⏱ 30secs-2mins > 3 reps each side.

2) Nordic Curls: Often talked about, and for good reason. Nordics are one of the best possible 💪 strengthening exercises for hammies, especially rehabbing an injury. They target the eccentric component of the movement, the ⬇️ lowering down, which is great for muscle rehab. There are heaps of different was to do it, but here is the basic version.

HOW TO: Kneel with your feet hooked under a sturdy anchor (or get a friend 😉 to hold them) > keeping your hips and back straight slowly lower yourself ⬇️ down towards the ground > you will probably reach a point where your muscles give out and you fall forward, so gently catch yourself with your hands > reset and repeat for 3 sets of 8-12 reps.👊
