I’m getting excited for our Big Country Bikepacking expedition to S.E. Oregon at the end of the month. @jamye_chrisman @tetonmntrider @brucesmithhammer @billynix @ksmithhammer and I will be riding #salsacycles 2 Mukluk’s and 2 Beargrease. The Smithhammer’s will ride a #surlybikes ECR 29+ and #advocatecycles fat bike. The route will cover 357 miles and gain 18,349 ft over eight days of riding, camping and hot springs soaks. The stoke is high. #fitzymtbstoke#hotsprings#goodfriends
Brand new 29+ wheelset build by Rick at Fitzgerald’s Bicycle shop in Victor, Idaho. #wtb Scrapper i45 with ranger 3.0” tough/fast tires. The front Hub is a Schmidt son28 dynamo hub that produces electricity, which runs my #klite bikepacker pro headlight and #cinq5 USB cache battery powering all my extra shit. I have purchased and recycled 2 AA batteries in over 2600 miles. This is my 3rd dynamo hub on three different wheelsets and I’m not sure I’d go with anything else. This will be my bikepacking steed and maybe even my MTB with a suspension fork up front. PSYCHED. #fitzymtbstoke#wtb#salsacycles#salsamukluk#bikepacking#adventurebybike#lifeisfly
SWIPE FOR ADVENTURE! ➡
Yesterday Derrick, Mitch, and Aaron went up to Horseshoe Canyon in the Big Hole Mountains in Teton Valley for a late morning adventure and some outside @domacoffee!
Snow conditions were relatively firm – even in soft spots, there was enough of a base to minimize breaking through.
They climbed out of Horseshoe Canyon, up and around Packsaddle Lake, took a break to make some coffee, then continued around, descending a fun, but steep and technical trail and connecting back with the Horseshoe-Packsaddle Road back to the trailhead.
The 21-mile ride was completely on groomed or packed snow. The sun poked through the clouds here and there throughout the day offering its warmth, but towards the end, the snow started falling faster and accumulating more. The timing of getting out couldn't have been more perfect.
They saw only one skier and a group of friendly snowmobilers.
One of the reasons we love bikes so much is because of opportunities and adventures like this -- there are few other modes of travel that are as pure, while still giving you the ability to travel through winter backcountry and experience wild places such as these.
Today is International Happiness Day, but every day we're on a bike is a happy day for us! Winter isn't over yet -- get out there, embrace it, and share your stories with us! We love to hear about your adventures and keep the stoke alive!

If you want to get as far off the beaten path as possible and need a bike that will handle any terrain or situation that you can put underneath its wheels, then look no further than the Pugsley. Sometimes you just can’t do better than a cup of coffee from your percolator, over a fire split with your wood-handled axe, wrapped up in your wool blanket. Sometimes you just can’t do better than an offset rear end, huge tire clearance, steel tubes, and a tried and true classic.-Slippers Cortez
