This is Rupa. I visited India in April of 2012 to visit my aunt. At the time she was a teacher at the American Embassy School and knew of my passionate love for elephants. She quietly worked with the city to charter an elephant into the school and onto school grounds - just for me!
She got me up at 5am for some “Yoga in the Park” and I grumbled at the early hour, trying to bail. I reluctantly got into the car, but as soon as I saw Rupa in all her majestic beauty, my entire trip was made. To top it off, she was brought here to be friends with ME for the next few hours! 🤗
I got to ride her and parade around the school with her, handing out smiles to the few staff and students who were there who also came out to play. We got to feed her bananas and give her water and lots of hugs and even watch her go up stairs. That day will always be one of my favorite memories. Thank you Rupa, and Aunt Linda, for that special day.
We want to give a shoutout to our wonderful village member Lyn! Not only is she great at passing out chocolate samples, but she also manages to make an elephant mask look stylish! 🐘
Lyn has only been with our village for the past few years, but she's been a "fair trade pusher" for 25! She began her fair trade work as one of the first equal exchange distributors of coffee in Nebraska. Equal Exchange, the makers of the coffee we supply in the store, invited Lyn to attend an excursion to El Salvador where she stayed with the local coffee growers. Lyn has seen first hand how your purchasers directly impact families!
Thank you Lyn for all that you do for our store!
Would you believe me if I said this coloring book was made out of elephant poo?
Well, sort of. Elephants in Sri Lanka are being killed at an alarming rate. Due to high rates of deforestation, these elephants have nowhere to call home, and therefore are being killed when they get a little too close to villages and farms. .
To help fight deforestation, Mr. Ellie Pooh was created! Basically, the pooh part of the dung is washed away and what is used for the paper is leftover raw cellulose. The vegetation is then boiled in a big pressure pot to kill any bacteria. Then it is combined and mixed with post-consumer paper. Finally, the pulp mixture is screened, pressed and hung to dry. No need to destroy the remaining forests!
Compared to using virgin wood, paper made with 100% recycled content uses 44% less energy, produces 38% less greenhouse gas emissions, 41% less particulate emissions, 50% less waster water, 49% less solid waste, and of course, 100% less wood. .
Come learn more about Mr. Ellie Pooh THIS Saturday when our store is celebrating Elephant Appreciation Day! See you all there! 🐘❤️
National Elephant Appreciation Day was last Friday, September 22nd. So go make sure you give our big-boned friends a high five, fist bump, or a head of lettuce. Here's my sketch to commemorate the day created back in 1996.
#Repost @charmcitycakes with @appreposter Happy #ElephantAppreciationDay ! Did you know that elephant trunks have 40,000 muscles and tendons? It takes about a year for a baby elephant to learn to use their trunk! 🐘
We would like to thank you all for your support on #elephantappreciationday ! Thanks to you we have been to help make a difference with Save the Elephants! Let's continue to join together and #savetheelephants 🐘❤ 📸: Jayne Wynyard Save The Elephants
I had an awesome time tabling at Two Tails Ranch this weekend with the Ashton Biological Preserve and fellow conservation groups. Events like these are crucial to teaching people of all ages the importance of conservation and wildlife appreciation/respect.
Thank you for the pics @hill.catherine!________________________________________
The white snake in the picture is one from my fiance's collection and his name is Alistair. He did fantastic for this all day event with minimal breaks in between the waves of people. Collectively @gsansone4 and I have 5 snakes and one gecko. This is one of our most docile snakes besides my boa, Naomi. You can find pics of our menagerie on his instagram.

Friday 22nd September Marks #ElephantAppreciationDay . Like the popular saying that the"Elephants never forget"
The Haier Thermocool Front Load Automatic Washing Machine (9KG) never forgets! Its Smart Memory System saves your wash progress during an unexpected power outage and continues where it stopped when power is restored so you don't have to start the wash process over again.
Never to late to be aware and make a change 🖤🖤 ... #Repost @rizzolibooks
Today is National #ElephantAppreciationDay , a day to admire, respect, and support solutions for the better care of captive and wild elephants alike. "We admire elephants in part because they demonstrate what we consider the finest human traits: empathy, self-awareness, and social intelligence. But the way we treat them puts on display the very worst of human behavior.” —Graydon Carter, Editor of Vanity Fair.
