The Geeenlee family began operations inside the Kenmuir Quarry, Red Rock Canyon Open Space, in 1888. Much of the vibrant, soft sandstone was extracted and sent to Denver via the Colorado Midland Railway. By 1915 the quarry ceased operations and mixed land uses came about. Fast forward to 2003, the land was purchased by local government and converted to a 1,400 acre open space. I spent #EarthDay hiking my favorite local park and learning about the robust history of the Pike’s Peak region. #My_CoSprings#ColorsdoSprings#RedRocksOpenSpace#OptOutside#Coloradogram#History

The fervent flame of summer lies in your lovely cheek; But in your heart the winter lies old and cold and bleak. All this will change, my precious, and sooner than you seek: The summer in your heart, dear, The winter in your cheek.
We hope your Earth Day was full of adventure and spent soaking up Mother Nature in all her glory!
“Today I know your magic call,
Will lead me back to the canyon wall.
And the music in your rapids roar,
Make this boatman’s song from his soul outpour.” -Song of the Boatman by Katie Lee, the Desert Goddess of Glen Canyon
