Join @mp.maryann.mihychuk & Eric Napier-Strong on a walk through history, back to the early 1800's on a tour through the life of the most exciting time in Manitoban history at this years Doors Open Winnipeg!
Take the opportunity to experience a time when Marie-Anne Gaboury, a Canadian heroine, broke all tradition and travelled by foot, canoe, and horseback from Montreal with her husband Jean Batist Lagimodiere to Winnipeg to become a voyageur.
Marie-Anne actively hunted, trapped and traded. She learned many indigenous languages and even once saved the life of a man by taking on and defeating a grizzly which was mauling him to death.
Marie-Anne is known widely as the first European woman in the west, Louis Riel's grandmother, and Canada's first ever female voyageur.
