The biggest coin auction of the spring will be held at our department in Nordhavn Copenhagen on Tuesday 8 May, where 530 hand-picked coins, medals and banknotes will come under the hammer. The biggest highlight is an extremely large 4 Speciedaler from 1624, made of silver from the Norwegian mountains at Kongsberg west of Oslo. It is a very rare type in an exceptionally beautiful example with a fine patina and without any of the usual dents and polishing marks. Estimate: DKK 200,000 (€ 27,000). #bruunrasmussen#coin#auction#christianIV
This set was launched in 2002 celebrating what would have been Arne Jacobsen’s 100 year birthday. It shows great interaction between the cold chromed steel frames and the warm wooden organic shapes. This set will launch on our auction from Friday! #bruunrasmussen#nordicdesign#arnejacobsen#fritzhansen
We're getting this amazing collection of #AxelSalto#ceramics ready for auction. Stay tuned!
#salto#danishdesign#nordicdesign#danishmodern#auction#copenhagen#bruunrasmussen Axel Salto (1889–1961) is one of the 20th century’s greatest ceramic artists. He was Danish and initially studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. But it was not until he began working with stoneware that he gained recognition. His original and expressive visual idiom gives his works iconic status.
Salto’s ceramics are now featured in a solo exhibition at Sørlandets Kunstmuseum.
Pioneering modernist and ceramicist
In Denmark, Salto is considered a pioneer in the Modernist movement. His innovative visual language is described as epoch-making. He rejected the Functionalist paradigm, which sought to simplify and create light and elegant forms, and dared instead to approach ceramic material in unconventional ways. The fluted, budding and sprouting styles are characteristic for his ceramic oeuvre, and they build on his observation of nature’s own forms, structures and movements.
Salto was fascinated by the qualities of glazes, how they reinforce form, and by the firing process’s unpredictability and effect on clay and glazes. Variations in the colour and lustre of glazes offered innumerable possibilities for playing with light and texture. The unpredictability of the kiln imbued his ceramics with a life of their own. Salto never considered himself a ceramist, he thought of himself as an artist. He worked closely together with professional experts, who took care of the craftmanship and the technical side of the production. They understood his artistic vision for ceramics, and helped him attain his artistic goals.

I really get asked a lot where I find our stuff, so I thought I would do a post about it - or just an introduction. I’m not into flee markets or second hand shops, I’m an auction and @dba kind of girl 🙋♀️. We rarely buy new stuff, not as a principal, but we often prefer the craftsmanship of older or pretty expensive stuff, so to get that within a tight budget we have to have patience and a system. My way of doing it is by having search agents setup at the different auction houses and DBA. I primarily use @lauritzdotcom @bruunrasmussen and @dba - but sometimes I also use some Swedish online auction houses. And I don’t just use it for big expensive things, when we needed flowerpots I found these 3 Chinese once on @lauritzdotcom and they were not only way cheaper then buying new ones but also so much cooler 🌳 This way of buying rarely gives instant satisfaction, sometimes it can take days, months or years to find the right product to the right price, but for us it’s the only possible way and do I love the hunt ✨😂 🛋🔫😂✨ #thehomeofceline •

Today we launch our new profile and invite everyone to follow us. We start out with the only place we think we could. With the eiptome of Danish design by the grandfather of Danish modern furniture. The “Red chair” Designed by Kaare Klint 1927 and made ever since by Rud. Rasmussen. This example is one of a stunning set of 6 chairs in Cuban mahogany with Niger leather that were consigned to us today and that will appear in our upcoming sale in Bredgade June 4th. The Red Chair was designed for the lecture hall at Design Museum Denmark and aquired its name after the distinct red colour of the naturally dyed goatskin from Niger. The form was derived from a Chippendale chair stripped to its essentials. The task of toiling with sketch drawings was placed upon the young employee at Klint’s studio - Ole Wanscher.
He would years later succeed Klint as professor of the school of furniture design at the Royal Academy of Arts. The chair would later appear in the Danish pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona Exposition. It was immediately a favorite among fellow architects, and as early as 1929 Sir Gordon Russell aquired a set of them and under his mastership facilitated Kaare Klint 1949 was awarded the title “Honorary Royal Designer for society”. The chair remain the prime example of understated nordic elegance and devotion to craftsmanship. #bruunrasmussendesign#bruunrasmussen#auction#nordicdesign#danishmodern#moderndesign#1927#1920s#barcelona#kaareklint#olewanscher#furniture#sale879#redchair#rudrasmussen

Right now a large number of works from the private collection of the Danish lawyer and art collector Benjamin Wolff (1790-1866) is displayed at @drouot_paris in connection with @salondudessin Over the course of 30 years, Wolff assembled an extraordinary collection of drawings ranging from 16th century Old Masters to 19th century Danish Golden Age. Except for a national bequest in 1915 and two minor exhibitions in the 1980s, the corpus of the collection, numbering over 2,000 drawings, has remained in the family since Wollf’s death in 1866, intact and unpublished for five generations until today. A large part of this private collection can be seen in Paris today and will be auctioned off at our salesroom in Copenhagen on 30 May. #bruunrasmussen#fineart#masterdrawing#auction#exhibition#paris#brexhibition
