P: Policarpa Salavarrieta 💛🇨🇴 La pola, symbol of courage and freedom. She was a very important woman for my country. She dedicated a significant part of her short life to the revolution, she was an important piece for Colombian independence.
Being young and woman never stopped her to fight against the Spanish viceroyalty that was ruling in Colombia at that time. Her character never cracked to defend her country and its right to freedom. She worked undercover as a seamstress, domestic worker and even as a nanny, to gather information for the revolutionary army. She also collaborated buying war material, supporting her people during the battles and inviting young people to join their cause. Her spy work catalogs her as the most important woman in the Colombian independence movement.
After years of spy work, Policarpa was captured by the Spanish viceroyalty and was sentenced to death at age 22 (around), and her last words were "Indolent people! How different today would be your fate if you knew the price of freedom! But it's not too late. Look at me, woman and young, I have the courage to suffer the death and a thousand more deaths, do not forget this example! " 🇨🇴✊ Fun fact: In 1911 a beer company produced a beer called "La Pola" and even it isn't produced anymore, in Colombia we call beer "Pola" till today.
P.S.: My brother loves her.
i wanna try and get back into taking photos again. when i started college i could never find the time to take photos. when classes start back up i’d like to make it a priority of mine to take some time to relax and shoot a few pretty things.
