It was all smiles this morning at Silver Creek High School as we reflected on their Pay It Forward project. Each student received $30 and set out to do something kind for someone. We discussed how awesome it felt to experience generosity on a personal, one-on-one level and how contagious an act of kindness can be. Awesome job Silver Creek High!
Yesterday, @albintwilson participated as a panelist at the @lunduniversity Sustainability Forum which discussed green supply chains in the car industry and the big responsibilities #EV companies have for the sourcing of battery raw materials. At Uniti, we are fully aware of the unique opportunity of starting from ground-up to create a new, ethical supply chain! 💪🏼✌🏼

In Sierra Leone, widespread misunderstanding of a disability coupled by the lack of health care, or other public support services, makes children with physical and mental disabilities some of the world’s most vulnerable children. WHI's Enable the Children program supports these children by helping provide physiotherapy and occupational therapy, care, and other support services for their families.

Five years ago, today, the Rana Plaza factory in Bangledesh collapsed, killing 1138 people and injuring 2500 more. As said by @FashionTakesAction, "No one should die for fashion. Has enough changed in these 5 years? No it hasn’t. While some progress has been made thanks to the Bangladesh Accord, there are still millions of garment workers whose lives and basic human rights, are at risk." This fun, exciting and glamorous industry that is so applicable and essential to everyone's daily lives - we all wear clothing, every day - has an ugly side to it. Things have changed in the last 5 years, but there is much more we can do.
Educating our selves is the first step. We highly recommend that everyone watches The True Cost as an introductory to what has happened behind the scenes of garment manufacturing and production.
Next, get involved in the Fashion Revolution. Check if there are any local events happening this week, or participate online by joining the #WhoMadeMyClothes campaign. Here is how you join:
1️⃣ Take a picture of the clothing label of your favourite brand
2️⃣ Post it to social media (instagram, twitter, facebook)
3️⃣ Tag the brand, and in the description, ask then who made your clothing by using the hashtag #whomademyclothes and tagging @Fash_Rev.
For other ways you can participate, please visit their website at https://www.fashionrevolution.org/about/get-involved/. Fashion Revolution Week runs from April 23-29. This week is not meant to be used as a marketing tool, to promote how green a company is, but to reflect, educate and share what we do honestly and always remember why we do it. 💚
Over 3.5 million people in Somalia have been affected by war and famine in the past 20 years. Our partner organisation, SADO, supports young people away from militant groups and into jobs. They receive vocational skills training and have the opportunity to join apprenticeships, so that they have solid job skills to earn a living. Many are from areas most devastated by conflict, or are refugees in their own country, and are extremely vulnerable to militia recruitment. 📷 Tobin Jones #peacedirect

How often do we stop to be appreciative for water? The fact is, 844 million people don’t have clean drinking water. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ponder this: Cheru a 5 year old from Kenya walks three a half hours a day with his mother to gather water. And 4 thousand children die every day from a lack of safe water. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are in a powerful position to do something -
From raising awareness, fundraising, campaigning, volunteering or getting behind organisations like @charitywater @wateraid @water - we can all make a difference in so many ways!
More than 2.5 billion people worldwide lack access to basic sanitation services – more than one-third of the global population. WHI's Clean Water & Sanitation program is combating this issue by building water wells, latrines, and solar powered water systems for vulnerable areas in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mozambique, and Cambodia. “It is absolutely paralyzing to learn that your son has a substance use disorder. The stigma of having a child struggling with addiction caused us to withdraw rather than seek help. We learned how to live life with the truth hidden in the back of our hearts,” Adam’s mother Darlene writes. Read Adam’s story (link in bio)
