Some days, magic finds us. Other days, we find it. Some days we have to really search for it, for reminders of small moments of beauty. Yellow and white wings. They play and play, even with the human trash right by their playground. As an example of the power of play, we can look no further than these flapping wings. They chase, hide and seek. They know what it feels like to fall and to float. If we can imagine ourselves to be just as light, just as strong, perhaps we can lift ourselves up from our own weighty gravity, that which holds us down. #noticements #wonder #beauty #beautyeverywhere #butterfly #play #imagine #color #puravida

Yauder, El Tigre
Yauder: El Tigre
From: Guatuso, Costa Rica
Yauder is one of the men who maintains the magic of the gardens and working life at @ranchomargot.
Yauder is Maleku, one of the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica. Maleku live in northern Costa Rica. There are three palenques, or towns, called Margarita, El Sol and Toronjil. Yauder is from palenque Margarita. The Maleku people believe the suita leaf (Asterogyne martiana) is sacred. They call god El Tocu. Legend says that El Tocu came from the rivers—the Maleku people live surrounded by La Muerte and El Frío, the Death and the Cold River. Tourists can still go to the Guatuso area to learn about how the Maleku use bows and arrows, cook traditional food, song and dance.

These are the reminders that we love to receive, the memories we love to help create. @ranchomargot has become a gathering place for family reunions over the past several years. We’re grateful to all of the families that choose to come here, relax, and enjoy the natural world with us. Thanks to the Hallans for this sweet note...until next time!! ✨

One of the right hands to Maria, our director of the mucamas, is Tommy. Tommy has been at @ranchomargot for just three months, and during that time he’s become a master of organization. He can be found moving mattresses between rooms, cleaning bunkhouses and bungalows, tending the grill at BBQs, and kicking the soccer ball with the Rancho Margot team.

Who has the hardest job in the Ranch? Well, it’s not quite a fair question, as everyone works hard. Yet, when volunteers work in all the sectors and are asked which job is the hardest, the majority say las mucamas - the cleaning crew. The mucamas are the women and men who clean and maintain all the rooms, organize, do the laundry, and keep the Ranch’s inside or covered spaces tidy and spotless. Maria is the director of our mucama team. She’s been with the ranch for over 5 years, after starting as the nanny for our kids. With time, she grew into work with the mucamas and now she is in charge of the mucamas, keeping everything in order, with a solid attitude and essy smile. The next time you’re at @ranchomargot and you see the mucamas at work, say thank you, thank you, thank you. They do their work with incredible care and attention to detail. She’s also the goalie and coach of our women’s soccer team ⚽️ ❤️
