Film maker David Weissman (The Cockettes, We Were Here, Conversations With Gay Elders) posted this pic on Facebook and my heart melted when I saw Doris Fish on the left. I loved her column in the Sentinel, which was smart and funny, and dealt a lot with the AIDS epidemic and her own health. One of her last articles was about how much pain she was in, and while she would rarely even take aspirin in the past, she was willing to take anything to end her suffering. I think a lot of young people can’t even comprehend the horror of the time, and it was so heartbreaking to see someone who gave me a lot of joy and comfort suffer so badly. She moved back to Australia in 1989, to be with her family last year of her life. Miss X on the right.
